The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced a N20 million bounty on criminals within the FCT.
This declaration was made during a parade of suspects, including individuals involved in kidnappings and one Chance operations, by the FCT police command in Abuja.
Wike emphasized that criminal activities will not be tolerated in Abuja, stressing that law enforcement agencies will receive additional communication gadgets and equipment to enhance intelligence gathering and operational efficiency.
Over the past three years, Abuja has witnessed nearly 50 cases of kidnapping, affecting more than 200 individuals.
In response to escalating security concerns, the Federal Capital Territory Commissioner for Public Complaint, Dalhatu Ezekiel, urged the Federal Government to prioritize security in the area and consider declaring a state of emergency.
Ezekiel further appealed to Minister Wike to potentially suspend ongoing projects to address the pressing security issues affecting the lives of FCT residents.
Inspector-General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun had in January inaugurated the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as reported by REPORT AFRIQUE.
The squad, tasked with patrolling and securing border towns within the territory, aims to swiftly respond to and mitigate violent attacks.
