Sack more ministers, Senator Ali Ndume tells Tinubu
Senator Ali Ndume Calls for Additional Ministerial Dismissals in Cabinet Restructuring

Senator Ali Ndume, representing the Borno South senatorial district, has urged President Bola Tinubu to dismiss underperforming ministers from his cabinet following recent changes made by the President. In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, Ndume expressed his concerns about certain ministers who he believes are failing to fulfill their responsibilities.

The senator commended the recent cabinet reshuffle, highlighting the establishment of the Ministry of Regional Development, which is tasked with overseeing all regional commissions. Ndume described the restructuring as a “masterstroke,” but emphasized that further action is necessary, stating, “More needs to be done as some ministers are still ‘missing in action.’”

He praised Tinubu’s efforts to streamline government ministries, which he sees as a demonstration of the President’s commitment to minimizing governance costs. Ndume also encouraged the President to deepen his de-dollarisation agenda by positioning Nigeria to join the BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. He argued that this move could significantly benefit Nigerian businesses, particularly those engaged in imports from China, by lessening dependence on the U.S. dollar and alleviating pressure on the naira.

Additionally, Ndume suggested that President Tinubu convene a national economic conference, led by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning and the National Economic Adviser, alongside prominent Nigerian economists, to develop homegrown solutions for the country’s economic challenges.

In a related note, Chief Charles Udeogaranya, a former presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress, criticized Tinubu’s cabinet restructuring as misguided. In a statement from Abuja, Udeogaranya claimed that the changes made were not in the areas that would yield positive economic outcomes.

“I am concerned that President Tinubu’s economic team is not even engaged in proactive discussions,” he said. He urged the President to make significant changes to his economic team by bringing in fresh talent with effective leadership skills if he genuinely seeks to improve the economic landscape for Nigeria and its citizens.
