Despite these setbacks, Murray-Bruce expressed optimism about his plans for the Nigerian film industry.
Abuja, Nigeria- Former Nigerian senator and media mogul, Ben Murray-Bruce, has recounted how he was defrauded of $3.5 million by his South African business associate during a failed investment in a cinema complex in Kenya.
Murray-Bruce shared this story on Thursday during the 4th Peace Anyiam Osigwe (PAO) Nigeria Digital Content Regulation Conference.
According to Murray-Bruce, he had arranged to purchase a cinema complex in Kenya for $3.5 million. However, after transferring the funds, his South African partner registered the business in his own name, leaving the former senator out of the deal. “I was called to buy a cinema complex in Kenya for $3.5 million. I transferred the money and my South African partner registered it in his name. That was how I lost that huge investment,” Murray-Bruce said.
The founder of Silverbird Group also spoke about his ongoing legal challenges, including a dispute with one of Hollywood’s prominent actors over issues involving his Los Angeles-based studio.
Despite these setbacks, the former senator expressed optimism about his plans for the Nigerian film industry. He revealed his intention to venture into movie production, a field he has yet to explore despite his long-standing influence in entertainment.
“I have a script, and all the fundamental issues will be raised in it,” he stated. “The entertainment industry is a very successful one. In all the things I have done, I have never made one move about movie making but now, I will. I am working on a script and I know we will get it right. We will deal with fundamental issues.”
Murray-Bruce emphasized his commitment to reviving the Nigerian cinema industry, drawing on his extensive experience and vision for local content creation.
