Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has approved a 50% tariff adjustment for telecom operators, citing rising operational costs and the need to ensure the sustainability of the industry
The regulatory body announced the development in a statement released on Monday. The approved adjustment is significantly lower than the over 100% hike initially requested by some network providers.
According to the NCC, the move aligns with its mandate under Section 108 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003, which empowers it to regulate and approve tariff rates in the telecommunications sector. The commission noted that the new tariffs would remain within the 2013 tariff bands and be implemented in accordance with its 2024 Guidance on Tariff Simplification.
Despite the upward adjustment, the NCC emphasized its commitment to protecting consumers, assuring that measures are in place to mitigate the impact of the increase.
Further details about the implementation timeline and affected services are expected as the story develops.
