Akure, Nigeria – The Secretary to the Ondo State Government (SSG), Mr. Tayo Oluwatuyi, popularly known as “Tukana,” has passed away. Oluwatuyi died on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at an undisclosed hospital, days after being involved in a road accident.
It was reported that the accident occurred on December 15, 2024, along the Ife-Ibadan Road. The former SSG was subsequently hospitalized and had been receiving treatment until his demise.

Government Statement
“It is with profound sadness that the Government of Ondo State announces the passing of Hon. Temitayo Oluwatuyi, Secretary to the State Government, on January 4, 2025,” the statement read.
The commissioner further recounted the accident and highlighted Oluwatuyi’s significant role in the state government.
“Hon. Oluwatuyi was involved in a ghastly car accident on Sunday, December 15, 2024, while travelling to Ibadan and was subsequently hospitalised,” he said.
“Hon. Oluwatuyi was a dedicated public servant whose unwavering commitment to administrative coordination, policy advisory, and implementation had a significant impact on Ondo State,” the statement continued.
Oluwatuyi’s career included various leadership positions, such as Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Commissioner, and serving twice as Secretary to the State Government. He was appointed SSG by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on January 24, 2024.
The state government extended its condolences to the Oluwatuyi family, friends, and associates, praising his invaluable contributions to the development of Ondo State.
The government has assured the public that further details regarding his memorial will be announced in due course.
