Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has urged President Bola Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and other imprisoned freedom fighters.
Obi stated that Kanu’s continued detention is unjustified, especially since he has been acquitted by the courts.
Speaking in Onitsha, Anambra State, Obi emphasized the importance of obeying the rule of law and releasing those granted bail by the courts.
He warned that Nigeria is heading towards becoming a failed state due to increasing insecurity and called for urgent action from leaders to address the situation.
Obi also commended the government’s efforts but stressed the need for more to be done. He encouraged South-East governors to work together to tackle insecurity and promote economic development in the region.
Additionally, Obi advocated for the release of protesters, journalists, and others detained for exercising their right to freedom of speech and peaceful assembly.
He emphasized the importance of democratic values and the need for leaders to listen to citizens’ concerns.
