Wynne is accused of conspiring with foreign mercenaries and other subversive elements to undermine Nigeria’s democratically elected government under President Tinubu
Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force has declared Andrew Wynne, also known by the aliases Andrew Povich or Drew Povey, a British national, wanted for allegedly orchestrating a plot to overthrow the government of President Bola Tinubu.
The police, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police and spokesman Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced the development on Monday at Force Headquarters in Abuja. Wynne is accused of conspiring with foreign mercenaries and other subversive elements to undermine Nigeria’s democratically elected government.
According to Adejobi, Wynne rented a space at Labour House in Abuja, where he established the ‘Iva Valley Bookshop’ and ‘STARS of Nations Schools’ as fronts for his subversive activities. It is alleged that Wynne provided funding and operational guidance for protests that occurred in August, with the aim of achieving an unconstitutional regime change in Nigeria.
“The Nigeria Police Force has launched a comprehensive investigation into the activities of a foreign national and subversive elements plotting to undermine the democratically elected government of Nigeria through unconstitutional means and orchestrating violence across the country,” Adejobi said.

He further revealed that nine suspects have been apprehended in connection with the plot. These individuals allegedly received substantial financial backing from foreign sources to destabilize the country, orchestrating and funding violent protests, spreading false information, and engaging in other unlawful activities.
This development follows recent arrests made by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Kano during protests. While Polish authorities have denied the involvement of their citizens in the Nigerian protests, asserting they were in Kano for an exchange program at Bayero University, the Polish nationals were detained for weeks before being released.
In a related development, the police have invited Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), for questioning regarding Wynne, who is reportedly a tenant at Labour House in Abuja. Ajaero had previously honored a police invitation last week and has been reinvited for further questioning.
