Kamala Harris holds a slim national lead, but tight margins in battleground states leave the 2024 presidential race too close to call.
With the U.S. presidential election on November 5 fast approaching, the question on everyone’s mind is whether Kamala Harris can beat Donald Trump or if the former president will make a comeback. After President Joe Biden withdrew from the race in July, Harris quickly gained momentum, and the polls are now a tight race between the two candidates.
Harris Gains Slim Lead Nationally
Although early polls suggested Harris would face similar challenges to Biden, her campaign has gained traction. Currently, she leads Trump by a narrow margin in national polling averages. Harris is holding steady at 47%, while Trump remains close behind at 44%.
Despite Trump’s endorsement by former independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy in late August, his numbers have seen little movement. Similarly, Harris’s polling figures have remained stable since her keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on August 22.
Battleground States: Too Close to Call
The real battleground lies in key swing states. These states, which can decide the election, show razor-thin margins between the two candidates. In Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin, polls indicate a virtual tie, with less than a percentage point separating Trump and Harris. These states were critical to Trump’s victory in 2016 and Biden’s in 2020, and they are expected to be decisive once again.
While national polls provide an overall snapshot of voter preferences, the U.S. electoral college system means the outcome in battleground states could be the deciding factor.
Can We Trust the Polls?
Polling for the 2024 election is close, with only a few points separating Trump and Harris, making the race tough to predict. Given that polls underestimated Trump’s support in 2016 and 2020, pollsters are now working to refine their methodologies. However, the final result will depend on voter turnout and late campaign developments.
Keep an eye on key events, including the upcoming presidential debate, which could shift the dynamics of the race as Election Day draws near.
