Ehie was confirmed speaker of the Rivers Assembly by a High Court in Port Harcourt presided over by Justice M.W. Danagogo on December 12 amidst a political crisis that rocked the state and divided the assembly members into two camps of 27 and 6 members respectively. The court further restrained Martins Amaewhule and Dumle Maol from parading themselves as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Before Ehie was elected speaker by his faction, the former speaker, Martins Amaewhule had overseen an impeachment proceedings against governor Fubara leading to the splitting of the assembly members into factions. Ehie’s faction with six members remained loyal to governor Fubara while 27 members led by Martins Amaewhule decamped to the APC and remained loyal to former governor Nyesom Wike.

REPORT AFRIQUE earlier reported that president Tinubu had resolved the political crisis in Rivers state. It was later reported that the resolution had been forced on Fubara by Tinubu in favour of The minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.
