Lokoja, Nigeria – A Federal High Court in Lokoja has issued an interim injunction preventing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from accepting or acting upon a recall petition against Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the suspended senator representing Kogi Central.
The recall process, initiated by some constituents, gained momentum on Thursday as more groups expressed support. However, INEC earlier stated it had not received any formal notice regarding the petition.

On Thursday, the court granted the injunction after an ex-parte motion was filed by Anebe Jacob Ogirima and four other registered voters from Kogi Central, citing urgency. The application was presented by legal counsel Smart Nwachimere of West-Idahosa, SAN & Co.
In its ruling, the court ordered INEC and its representatives to refrain from processing any petition that may contain fraudulent signatures or names until the motion is fully heard. It also directed that the order be served on INEC, with the case scheduled for further mention on May 6, 2025.
The injunction temporarily halts any potential referendum for the senator’s recall until a final decision is reached on the matter.
