Jonathan Backs Fubara, Calls Him Rivers State’s Future Political Leader
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has hailed Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the potential future political “General” of the state, despite the hurdles his administration has encountered since assuming office. Speaking at a chieftaincy installation event in Etche Local Government Area, Jonathan acknowledged the inevitability of political opposition for leaders and expressed confidence that the challenges facing Fubara will ultimately strengthen his leadership abilities.
During his remarks, Jonathan urged the residents of Rivers State to continue their support for Governor Fubara, underlining the crucial role of peace in fostering the state’s development. He encouraged Fubara to remain steadfast, assuring him that current adversities would mold him into a formidable political figure.
“I understand you (Gov. Fubara) are navigating through tough times, and in moments like this, I usually choose to remain silent. This is your inaugural experience in holding a significant political office, and trials are part of the journey. Remember, no one becomes a General without engaging in battles. The hurdles you face now are equipping you to be a General in politics. With your determination and the backing I witness from the Rivers people, you will overcome,” Jonathan stated.
He also highlighted the pivotal nature of Rivers State, warning that any disturbances could have far-reaching consequences for the entire nation. “We desire a peaceful Rivers State because it serves as the heart of the Niger Delta. Instability in Rivers could lead to a crisis in the Niger Delta, severely impacting our economy. A tranquil state is essential, and we hope the Governor remains composed and dedicated to his duties,” Jonathan remarked.
In his address, Governor Fubara graciously accepted the chieftaincy title of Dike Oha 1 of Etche Land, which was conferred upon him by the Supreme Council of Etche Traditional Rulers. He expressed his gratitude for the honor and acknowledged the robust support he has received from both the Etche and Ikwerre communities.
During the 1st Etche Festival of Food, Art, and Culture Exhibition held in Nihi Community, Fubara assured attendees that his administration remains committed to initiatives aimed at enhancing their standard of living. “As you know, we have just awarded road construction contracts in Afara, Egwi, and Mba communities. We will ensure these projects are completed, and we will return soon for their commissioning,” he declared.
The Governor also reaffirmed his dedication to maintaining law and order within the state, stating, “We will continue to pursue the right course and strive toward our goals. Thank you for your patience and ongoing support.” He expressed appreciation for Jonathan’s steadfast encouragement during challenging periods in his administration, stating, “He has consistently stood by me through these trying times.”
Senator John Azuta Mbata, the event’s chairman, praised Eze Nwala for a decade of dedicated service as monarch and called on traditional leaders in the state to uphold law and order, ensuring their communities’ safety and security.
