Elon Musk’s livestreamed interview with former U.S. President Donald Trump on X was abruptly taken offline early Tuesday morning due to what Musk described as a “massive” cyberattack. The incident, which Musk attributed to a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, resulted in the platform being flooded with internet traffic, temporarily knocking the interview offline.
The livestream resumed about 40 minutes later with a reduced audience. Musk assured listeners that the unedited audio would be posted once the interview concluded.
This disruption echoes the technical difficulties that plagued the launch of Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign on X last year, also under Musk’s oversight.
Musk’s increasingly controversial behavior on X has sparked global concern, particularly among lawmakers. Recently, he faced backlash in the U.K. for sharing misinformation about detainment camps amid the country’s race riots.
Additionally, Musk clashed with Europe’s Digital Commissioner Thierry Breton on Monday, after Breton reminded him of his legal responsibility to curb harmful content on X. In response, Musk posted a provocative meme, further escalating tensions.
