Former Imo State Governor, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a letter circulating online, Ihedioha cited the party’s inability to maintain discipline among its members as the reason for his departure. He added that the recent decisions made by the party are not in line with his personal beliefs.
Ihedioha was once a Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives under the PDP. He was also elected as the Governor of Imo State under the same party before being removed from office by the Supreme Court in a controversial ruling that declared Senator Hope Uzodinma, who finished fourth in the election, as the winner.
The PDP recently held its National Executive Meeting on April 18, 2024, and many Nigerians anticipated the suspension of party members who worked against the PDP during the last general election, including Chief Nyesom Wike, who openly campaigned against the party. However, the party did not sanction these members.
Emeka Ihedioha, however, declared that he is open to offering support and opinions where necessary to deepen democracy in Nigeria.
