Port Harcourt, Nigeria – An early morning explosion, suspected to have been caused by dynamite, rocked the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Aba Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, causing extensive damage to buildings and property.
The blast, which occurred on Saturday, destroyed the gate of the secretariat, shattered doors and windows, and left other sections of the building damaged. This marks the second attack on the Chief Tony Okocha-led APC faction’s secretariat this year.
The incident comes as local government elections are set to hold across Rivers State today. On Friday, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission announced that all sensitive materials had been successfully distributed to various local government areas in preparation for the polls.
A video circulating on social media shows workers inspecting the damaged facilities, assessing the extent of the destruction.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that she had not yet received a formal report on the explosion but promised to provide more information as it becomes available.
As of the time of this report, the APC is yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
