In a surprise move, former Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chairman, Segun Adewale, also known as Aeroland, has announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adewale made the announcement at a news conference in Lagos on Saturday, June 15, citing his desire to support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He clarified that his move is not motivated by a desire to contest elections in 2027 but rather to contribute to the ruling party’s vision.
The former PDP chairman’s defection comes on the heels of his suspension by the PDP in Alimosho Local Government Area, allegedly for causing disaffection and tarnishing the party’s image.
He dismissed the suspension as unconstitutional and orchestrated by those seeking to silence him for exposing corruption and mismanagement of campaign funds during the 2023 election.
Adewale expressed his frustration with the PDP, stating that he spent millions of naira during the elections without adequate support from the party. He also cited the political exposure that has affected his business and ability to access banking services.
The former chairman revealed that his political structure and supporters have already moved to the APC, with some occupying key positions as commissioners and lawmakers.
He emphasized his commitment to protecting his political legacy and business interests by joining the ruling party.
In a show of loyalty, Adewale announced his intention to travel to Abuja to pay homage to President Tinubu, demonstrating his dedication to the APC’s vision.
This high-profile defection is seen as a significant blow to the PDP in Lagos State and a boost to the APC’s strength in the region.
