In a state broadcast on Sunday, Fubara stated that while his administration disagrees with the judgment, it remains committed to upholding the rule of law as a law-abiding government. He emphasized that his government has always operated within constitutional provisions, due process, and legal frameworks.

The governor revealed that his legal team expects to receive the certified true copy of the judgment by Friday, March 7, 2025, after which the government will study its implications and ensure full compliance.

As part of measures to align with the ruling and maintain stability, Fubara announced the immediate takeover of the 23 local government councils by their respective Heads of Personnel Management (HPMs). This decision follows the Supreme Court’s pronouncement outlawing caretaker arrangements in the local government system. He directed outgoing local government chairmen to hand over to the HPMs by Monday, March 3, 2025, pending fresh elections.

Governor Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to organizing local government elections through the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to ensure a democratic transition at the grassroots level.

Acknowledging the tense political climate, he urged residents of Rivers State to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that his administration remains focused on fulfilling its responsibilities to the people.

“Although our dear state seems to be back in trying times, I urge everyone to remain peaceful and go about their daily activities,” he said.

The governor concluded by reaffirming his commitment to governance and the progress of Rivers State.
