Ganduje Inherited N8.9bn Debt as APC Chairman

Ganduje was elected as the APC National Chairman on August 3, 2023, during the party’s 12th NEC meeting at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton in Abuja. At the same event, Ajibola Basiru, a former Senate spokesman from Osun State, was elected as the party’s National Secretary.

Abuja, Nigeria – Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has revealed that he inherited a debt of N8.9 billion upon assuming office.

Speaking on Wednesday at the ongoing National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the APC in Abuja, Ganduje disclosed that the debt stemmed from pre-election legal battles, election cases, and appeals related to legislative, governorship, and presidential elections.

“The current National Working Committee (NWC) inherited debts and legal liabilities amounting to N8,987,874,663 from various legal engagements,” he stated.

Ganduje further noted that the APC’s National Legal Adviser, Prof. Abdul Kareem Kana (SAN), has been working to ease the financial burden. He appealed to the NEC for intervention to address the situation.

The meeting was attended by President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, state governors, NWC members, and other party chieftains.

Ganduje was elected as the APC National Chairman on August 3, 2023, during the party’s 12th NEC meeting at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton in Abuja. At the same event, Ajibola Basiru, a former Senate spokesman from Osun State, was elected as the party’s National Secretary.

After his emergence, Ganduje pledged to uphold internal democracy, establish a scientific register of party members, and focus on election management and conflict resolution within the APC.
