Governor Fubara also extended his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the support that ensured a smooth and successful conduct of the election.
Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially sworn in the newly elected chairmen of the 23 local government areas at a ceremony held in the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House, Port Harcourt.
The swearing-in, which followed a local government election marred by tension and heightened security on Saturday, took place just hours after the chairmen received their certificates of return from Adolphus Enebeli, Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).
The Action Peoples Party (APP) emerged as the dominant force in the polls, securing 22 out of the 23 available chairmanship positions. Governor Fubara, in his address, urged the chairmen to embrace a spirit of servant leadership, emphasizing the need to remain humble in their positions.
“The moment you see yourself as a god, the problem begins,” Fubara cautioned. He reminded the newly elected leaders that their roles are to serve the people and not to elevate themselves above the electorate.
The governor also extended his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the support that ensured a smooth and successful conduct of the election.
The ceremony was graced by notable figures, including Senator Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, who was present to witness the inauguration.
The successful completion of the elections and the inauguration of the new local government chairmen signal a new chapter in grassroots governance in Rivers State.
