Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has emphasized the importance of meticulous record-keeping to the eight newly appointed commissioners during their swearing-in ceremony held at the Executive Council Chambers of Government House.

In his address, Governor Fubara underscored that accurate documentation is critical for the effective operation of any organized system, particularly within the civil service. He noted that proper records provide valuable historical insights into events, decisions, and actions, serving as vital productivity indices.

“It is regrettable how some former commissioners failed to maintain proper documentation, leaving no records of their activities,” Fubara remarked. “We’ve had instances where essential records were missing, but that is their issue to reconcile. Moving forward, you must adopt a disciplined approach to administration.”

The Governor advised the new commissioners to collaborate closely with their Permanent Secretaries and not hesitate to seek guidance when necessary. “Working with your Permanent Secretaries and asking questions does not diminish your leadership. It enhances your capabilities as effective administrators,” he added.

Governor Fubara highlighted the importance of discipline within his administration, drawing from his extensive experience in the civil service. He stressed that the commissioners should emulate his commitment to detail and transparency. “From my time in the Office of the Accountant General, I have maintained meticulous records. Every action and decision from 2007 to date is well-documented and available for scrutiny.”

In the statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, the Governor encouraged the commissioners to uphold this standard, ensuring they could confidently account for their actions at any time. “Keep your records straight,” he urged, “so that you can defend every decision and action taken during your tenure.”

Fubara reminded the commissioners of their oath of service, urging them to defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and to serve the interests of Rivers State diligently. “Your role is not to serve me but to work for the betterment of our State. I believe you will uphold your integrity and not bring shame to our State, your families, or your local governments.”

The Governor expressed confidence that the new commissioners would contribute positively to his administration’s ongoing efforts, urging them to strive for greater success while steadfastly defending the State’s interests.

The ceremony concluded with Governor Fubara urging the commissioners to recognize their appointment as a divine opportunity and a responsibility to deliver exceptional service to the people of Rivers State.
