Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has pledged unwavering support for the establishment of a befitting Secretariat for the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Eastern Zone within the state.

This declaration came amidst a fervent celebration of liberation, as Governor Fubara lauded the solidarity shown by the Ijaw Nation during a commemoration of the late Major Isaac Adaka Boro.

The occasion marked 56 years since the passing of Major Isaac Adaka Boro, a revered figure in the fight for equity and justice for the Ijaw people.

The Governor addressing a gathering of IYC leaders, emphasized the shared goal of liberation and urged all genuine Rivers residents to embody the spirit of unity and progress.

The governor’s commitment to supporting the IYC Eastern Zone in establishing a Secretariat underscores his dedication to fostering development and unity within the state. This announcement resonated with the sentiments expressed by Mr Jonathan Lokpobiri, the National President of IYC, who hailed the Governor’s leadership as a beacon of hope for all Ijaw people.

Chairman of IYC Eastern Zone, Mr Tamuno Kpokpo, clarified that their visit was not intended as an ethnic confrontation but rather as a demonstration of support for the continuous development of Rivers State. He emphasized the IYC’s resolve to uphold peace and resist any attempts to disrupt governance in the state.

As the celebration of liberation continues, Governor Fubara’s promise of support for the IYC Secretariat serves as a testament to the enduring partnership between the government and the Ijaw community in Rivers State.
