Governor Siminalayi Fubara has publicly expressed his disappointment with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the party has failed him and the people of Rivers State.
Fubara made this declaration during a meeting with the Senate Committee on Privatisation, led by Senator Orji Kalu, at the Government House in Port Harcourt. He revealed that he and his supporters are now operating as a movement to defend democracy, rather than functioning as members of a political party.
This announcement comes after an explosive device was detonated in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, which the governor believes was an attempt to justify the imposition of a state of emergency in the state.
Fubara accused the PDP of failing to take action against offenders, citing the agitation for tenure elongation for former local government chairmen as an example.
He clarified that he is not fighting anyone, but rather defending the state against predators and protecting the interests of Rivers State and its supporters.
The governor’s stance has sparked reactions from party members, including Senator Abba Moro, a former Minister of Interior, who was present at the meeting.
