The PDP protest follows growing tension over the final outcome of the Edo governorship election, with many awaiting the announcement of results from the remaining two local governments.

Benin City, Nigeria – As the people of Edo State await the final announcement of the governorship election results, supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) staged a protest at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benin City.

The protesters voiced concerns over the results released so far, claiming discrepancies between the official figures and those obtained from polling units.

INEC had announced results from 16 out of the 18 local government areas in the state by Sunday. According to these figures, the All Progressives Congress (APC) won in 10 local governments, while the PDP secured victory in six.

Chanting solidarity songs and holding leaves, the protesters gathered in front of the INEC office, alleging that the results had been tampered with. One of the protesters, identified only as Frank, claimed that the figures announced on the INEC portal did not match the results they had obtained from the polling units.

According to PUNCH, Frank called on President Bola Tinubu to investigate the matter and ensure that the electoral process remains transparent.

“We will not allow anyone to tamper with the will of the Edo people. The voters chose our candidate, Ighodalo, but there are attempts to manipulate the results. We will not accept this,” he said.

He also emphasized the urgency of the situation, urging President Tinubu to intervene to prevent further tension in the state. “We have the authentic results, and the ones announced are different. Someone has tampered with the figures, and we will not take it. We don’t want anyone to ignite unrest in our state,” Frank added.

The protest follows growing tension over the final outcome of the Edo governorship election, with many awaiting the announcement of results from the remaining two local governments.
