Kaduna Citizens Watch for Good Governance (KCWGG) staged a protest at the Kaduna Government House, calling for the arrest and prosecution of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai over alleged fraud totaling N423 billion.
The protesters, who marched from UTC bus stop to the Government House, accused El-Rufai’s administration of financial mismanagement, abuse of power, and leaving the state with a significant debt burden.
The protest follows a report by the Kaduna Assembly’s ad-hoc committee, which uncovered unaccounted funds, irregularities, and mismanagement of funds during El-Rufai’s tenure.
The report alleged diversion of funds, overpayment of contractors, and lack of transparency in state funds usage.
The protesters commended Governor Uba Sani for allowing the legislative arm to investigate and for his open governance style. They called on Sani to implement relevant sections of the report and forward the findings to anti-corruption agencies for action.
The protesters also demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of El-Rufai and those he has incited to bring down the government.
The protest highlights the ongoing controversy surrounding El-Rufai’s administration and the demand for accountability in Kaduna State’s governance.
