The Senate has removed Senator Mohamed Ali Ndume as Chief Whip, following his outspoken criticisms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.
The decision was endorsed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senate Caucus during a plenary session on Wednesday, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio calling for a voice vote.
This development comes after the APC national leadership asked Ndume to resign from the party and join an opposition party, in a letter signed by national chairman Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Secretary Barrister Ajibola Bashiru.
Ndume’s criticisms had sparked a backlash from the pro-Tinubu camp, with Senator Sunday Karimi and the APC condemning his statement as derogatory.
Report Afrique reported that Ali Ndume accused Tinubu of running a closed-door government, alleging that ministers and other members of the senate are not allowed free access to the president.
