The Supreme Court has validated the victory of governor Siminilayi Fubara as Rivers State governor in a case brought to it by Mr. Tonye Cole of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The court dismissed the appeal brought before it by Tonye Cole of the All Progressives Congress filed over the guber elections of 18 March 2023 in Rivers state.

Mr. Cole challenged the victory of governor Fubara for the election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) in Rivers state.

Fubara pulled a total of 302, 614 votes to defeat Tonye Cole who scored 95, 274 votes.

Cole alleged before the court that Fubara did not resign his former position as Accountant-General of Rivers State, and continued to dey sign official government documents even after he had emerge as PDP flag bearer.
