Hon. Obi Aguocha, a member of the House of Representatives, has visited former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, seeking his intervention and support for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Aguocha, who represents Ikwuano, Umuahia North, and Umuahia South Federal Constituency, apologized for Kanu’s past actions and utterances, expressing his belief that a political resolution would promote understanding and unity in the country.
Buhari welcomed Aguocha’s approach and assured him that he would not oppose a political solution for Kanu’s release. This development follows a recent letter signed by 50 lawmakers across political and ethnic divides, appealing to President Bola Tinubu to direct the Attorney General to invoke relevant laws to secure Kanu’s release.
The meeting is part of a broader initiative to secure a speedy political resolution to Kanu’s detention and trial, aiming to build a new Nigeria where peace, equity, justice, and prosperity reign.
Report Afrique reported that Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi urged President Bola Tinubu to release Nnamdi Kanu and other imprisoned freedom fighters. Obi stated that Kanu’s continued detention is unjustified, especially since he has been acquitted by the courts.
