Abuja, Nigeria – The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, attended his first National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.
His attendance marked a significant milestone following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu after the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara in March 2025.
Vice President Kashim Shettima presided over the meeting, which saw the presence of several state governors and deputy governors from across the 36 states of Nigeria. Among those in attendance were Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, who had recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), and who led the opening prayers at the directive of Vice President Shettima.
Other notable governors present at the session included Rev. Fr. Hycinth Alia of Benue State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak of Kwara, Monday Okpebholo of Edo, and Bassey Otu of Cross River. Several deputy governors also participated in the meeting.
The Council observed a moment of silence and offered prayers for the victims of recent killings in Plateau, Benue, and Kwara states. Vice President Shettima led the prayers, offering condolences to the bereaved families and praying for the souls of the departed to rest in peace.
