Saudi Arabia Announces Visa Suspension for 14 Countries, Including Nigeria and Egypt, Ahead of Hajj

Saudi Arabia Implements Temporary Visa Suspension for 14 Nations Ahead of 2025 Hajj

In a significant move ahead of the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage, Saudi Arabia has announced a temporary suspension of specific visa categories for citizens from 14 countries, including Nigeria, India, and Pakistan. The new travel restrictions will take effect from April 2025, when the issuance of Umrah, family visit, and business visas will halt for nationals of the affected nations.

The ban will remain in place until June, coinciding with the conclusion of the Hajj season. However, Saudi officials have made it clear that registered pilgrims intending to perform the Hajj will not be impacted by this suspension. Citizens from Nigeria and the other affected countries who have secured their Hajj registrations through official channels will continue to be allowed entry into Saudi Arabia during this period.

The tightening of visa regulations aims to address growing concerns about unauthorized individuals circumventing proper registration processes by using Umrah or visit visas to partake in the Hajj. This influx has led to overcrowding and logistical challenges, culminating in a tragic incident during the 2024 Hajj where numerous lives were lost due to overcrowding and extreme heat conditions.

Effective April 13, the suspension will apply to the issuance of visit visas for the countries listed. Access to the Kingdom during the pilgrimage season will be granted exclusively to those with approved Hajj registrations from designated authorities.

The countries affected by this visa suspension include:

  • India
  • Egypt
  • Pakistan
  • Indonesia
  • Iraq
  • Nigeria
  • Sudan
  • Jordan
  • Ethiopia
  • Tunisia
  • Yemen
  • Algeria
  • Bangladesh
  • Morocco

Officials hope these measures will help mitigate the risks associated with unregulated pilgrim movement and improve the overall safety and experience of the Hajj for those who follow the correct procedures.
