Serena Williams and her daughters faced an unexpected setback during their recent visit to Paris.
The retired tennis champion took to social media on August 5 to voice her frustration after being denied entry to a rooftop restaurant at a luxury hotel in the city. The restaurant, which was reportedly empty at the time, did not allow the Williams family to dine there, sparking a wave of reactions online.
Williams, who was in Paris for the Olympic opening ceremony where she served as a torch bearer, shared her experience on X (formerly Twitter). She wrote:
“Yikes @peninsulaparis I’ve been denied access to the rooftop to eat in an empty restaurant of nicer places … but never with my kids.” She further added, “Always a first”
The incident has ignited a flurry of discussions on social media regarding the treatment of high-profile athletes and the inclusivity of luxury venues. Serena Williams, a celebrated sports icon with four Olympic gold medals to her name, has received widespread respect and admiration. The fact that she encountered such an issue has drawn significant attention.
The hotel has yet to comment on the matter. The public remains keenly interested in how this issue will be addressed.
