The governor emphasized that food sufficiency is a major issue in Nigeria and that revitalizing Songhai Farms would go a long way in addressing this problem.

Rivers State, Nigeria – Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has emphasized the need for the state’s economy to be diversified to address the issues of food shortages and unemployment. To achieve this, the governor has taken steps to revitalize the Songhai Integrated Farms, a project located in Tai Local Government Area of the state.

The governor made this statement while inaugurating the chairman and members of the task force responsible for overseeing the revitalization of Songhai Farms, which is a partnership between Vitalcrop Ventures Limited and Imagine Adama Limited. The task force is led by Biedima Oliver, who has been involved in the development of the project since its inception.

Fubara explained that his administration has been cautious in its approach to revitalizing the project due to past experiences. He recalled that a previous group had shown interest in the project but failed to deliver due to lack of capacity. The governor stated that he was pleased to see that the current partners have demonstrated their ability to drive the project forward.

The governor emphasized that food sufficiency is a major issue in Nigeria and that revitalizing Songhai Farms would go a long way in addressing this problem. He noted that if the issue of food shortages is tackled effectively, it would solve about 40-50% of the country’s economic problems.

Fubara warned that his administration would not tolerate any delays or excuses from the task force and urged them to deliver on their mandate. He assured that his administration would provide all necessary support to ensure the success of the project.

The chairman of the task force, Biedima Oliver, expressed gratitude to the governor for the opportunity and assured that they would deliver on their mandate. He stated that they would work diligently to revive Songhai Farms and make it operational within a stipulated timeframe.

The revitalization of Songhai Farms is seen as a major step towards diversifying the state’s economy and addressing the issue of food shortages. The project is expected to create jobs and improve food security in the state. With the inauguration of the task force, stakeholders are hopeful that the project will finally take off and achieve its intended goals.
