Tinubu Nominates New Chair for North West Development Commission

President Tinubu has also nominated Hon. Emeka Atuma as Chairman of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) and Hon. Mark C. Okoye as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, pending Senate confirmation.

Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted a revised list of nominees for the inaugural Governing Board of the North West Development Commission (NWDC) to the Senate for confirmation.


This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

In the updated list, Alhaji Lawal Samai’la Abdullahi has been nominated as the new chairman of the NWDC, replacing Ambassador Haruna Ginsau, who was initially nominated. Ja’afar Abubakar Sadeeq and Yahaya Aminu Abdulhadi have also been added as board members, alongside Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji, who retains his position as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission.

Other board members include Dr. Yahaya Umar Namahe, Engr. Muhammad Ali Wudil, Shamsu Sule, Nasidi Ali, and Aminu Suleiman.

The revised list reflects adjustments made by the Senate to the NWDC establishment act, ensuring representation from all six geopolitical zones. The new appointees for these zones are Chukwu Chijioke, Ahmed Mohammed, Engr. Ahmed Rufai Timasaniyu, Macdonalds Michael Uyi, Yemi Ola, and Hon. Babatunde Dada.

Other nominees for the SEDC board include Barr. Ugochukwu H. Agballah, Hon. Okey Ezenwa, Chief Hyacinth Ikpor, Hon. Donatus Eyinnah Nwankpa, Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu (Ph.D.), Nasiru Usman, and Hamma Adama Ali Kumo.
