President Tinubu was praised for upholding the principles of democracy in the recently concluded Edo governorship election.
Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently leading the Federal Executive Council meeting at the State House’s Council Chambers in Abuja.
At the meeting’s commencement, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, congratulated the people of Edo State, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC) family, on their resounding success in last Saturday’s governorship election.
Akume attributed the APC’s victory, which had eluded the party for over eight years, to President Tinubu’s commitment to free and fair elections.
“We want to congratulate the people of Edo State, particularly the APC family, properly guided by the father of the APC, for their fantastic outing. The election has been adjudged to be free and fair, and that is what Mr. President has always stood for,” Akume stated.
He praised President Tinubu for upholding the principles of democracy, noting that the election victory was a testament to the President’s dedication to ensuring a transparent electoral process.
The Council also observed a minute of silence in honour of Mrs. Salome Audu Jankada, a former Minister of Women Affairs and Youth Development during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration. Mrs. Jankada passed away on August 27, 2024.
SGF Akume, while announcing her death, said, “In line with our tradition, may I please request Council members to rise and observe a minute of silence in honour of the former Federal Executive Council member.”
The meeting is expected to consider various memoranda from different ministries. Key attendees include the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and other members of the Council.
