Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Sunday to participate in the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit, scheduled for January 27-28, 2025.
According to a statement released on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the summit is hosted by the Tanzanian government in collaboration with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank. The event is focused on advancing “Mission 300,” a pan-African initiative aimed at providing electricity access to 300 million people across the continent by 2030.
The summit will bring together African leaders, private sector stakeholders, development partners, and civil society organizations to discuss strategies for improving energy access on the continent. Key topics include expanding energy access in underserved areas, renewable energy solutions, energy efficiency, and encouraging private sector investments.
The two-day event will kick off with ministerial-level sessions where participating countries, including Nigeria, will present their national energy strategies, known as “compacts.” These compacts will detail their respective approaches to achieving universal energy access within five years.
On the second day, African Heads of State will sign the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, which will outline a unified roadmap for meeting the objectives of Mission 300.
