U.S. Provides $125 Million Military Aid to Ukraine
The United States is ramping up its support for Ukraine with a fresh $125 million military aid package, which includes crucial air defense systems, radars, and anti-tank weapons, the White House announced Friday.
This new shipment of arms arrives as Ukraine mounts its largest ground offensive on Russian soil since the conflict began in February 2022. The offensive, targeting the Kursk region, has led Moscow to declare an emergency and deploy reinforcements.
National Security spokesperson John Kirby emphasized that Ukraine’s use of U.S.-supplied weapons in these counterstrikes aligns with current U.S. policies. While the Biden administration has permitted cross-border strikes into Russia, it has not authorized attacks deeper into Russian territory, though specific limits remain unclear.
The aid package, drawn from existing U.S. military stocks, includes Stinger missiles, artillery rounds, and HIMARS ammunition, pushing the total U.S. aid to Ukraine to $55.6 billion since 2022.
Meanwhile, the United Nations reported that July saw the highest number of civilian casualties in Ukraine since October 2022. At least 219 civilians were killed, and over 1,000 injured due to conflict-related violence.
On Friday, a Russian missile strike on a shopping mall in Kostiantynivka, eastern Ukraine, claimed at least 14 lives and injured 44 others, marking another grim day in the ongoing conflict.
