The United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) has raised concerns with Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) regarding alleged safety violations by Air Peace.
This development follows the Nigerian carrier’s recent commencement of the Lagos-London route just three months ago.
The UK CAA reportedly issued two mandatory occurrence reports about Air Peace, which were subsequently forwarded to the NCAA. The reports are referenced as ‘United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report with reference number: CAA-UK, -2024-0217’ and ‘NATS Management System Safety Report.’
In response, the NCAA has contacted Air Peace for clarification on the reported issues. The NCAA’s letter, titled “United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report,” was dated May 14, 2024, and signed by Capt. O.O. Lawani, the NCAA General Manager of Operations.
According to the NCAA, the UK CAA highlighted concerns regarding the lack of operational approval for Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) functions, which are critical for the safe operation of the aircraft.
The captain of the flight reportedly admitted that an EFB was being used for navigational purposes without proper mounting devices, charging points, or backup batteries.
Air Peace recently launched flights to London Gatwick from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between Nigeria and the UK.
