Leicestershire, UK – A group of five children, including three 12-year-olds, have been arrested on suspicion of murdering an 80-year-old man who died following a brutal assault at a local park.
Leicestershire Police launched a murder investigation after the elderly victim succumbed to his injuries in the hospital on Tuesday. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, with reports of a “serious” assault near the park entrance.
The five suspects, including two 14-year-olds and three 12-year-olds, are being held in custody on suspicion of murder. Police are urging witnesses to come forward and speak with investigators.
Senior Investigating Officer, Insp Emma Matts, stated: “This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the victim’s family. We are working diligently to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and have made several arrests. We encourage anyone with information to contact us.”
Local officers are conducting reassurance patrols in the area, and a scene preservation remains in place at the park as the investigation continues.
Leicestershire Police will make a voluntary referral to the Independent Office of Police Conduct due to prior contact with the victim.
