Former Governor Ada George Accuses FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of Instigating Political Crisis in Rivers State
Former Rivers State Governor, Ada George, has alleged that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is the mastermind behind the current political turmoil in Rivers State, which includes the controversial declaration of a state of emergency and the appointment of sole administrators across all 23 local government areas.
During a recent media briefing, George, who served as governor from 1992 to 1993 and currently leads the Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum, voiced his concerns over Wike’s influence on the state’s political landscape. He accused Wike of exacerbating instability in the state after failing to impose his political will on its leadership.
“He can ignite unrest in states where the governors do not align with his views, and that seems to be what he is attempting to do in Rivers State. We have had enough; we will not permit him to set the state ablaze any longer,” George asserted.
He emphasized that Wike had been present in Rivers State just days prior to the controversial appointments of sole administrators, which he condemned as unconstitutional and detrimental to democratic governance.
“The appointment of sole administrators is a violation of constitutional provisions,” he stated. “Established legal processes exist for establishing local government leadership, and Wike’s actions undermine these democratic principles,” he added.
While urging for peaceful resolutions to the ongoing issues, Ada George made it clear that the people of Rivers State would not remain passive in the face of provocation.
