The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged for a speedy review of the Abuja master plan, aiming for completion by 2026.
He made this call during a meeting with a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Tuesday.
Wike emphasized the significance of the master plan review, highlighting its importance for the ongoing development of the FCT.
He praised JICA for its commitment to urban development projects and expressed the FCT Administration’s readiness to cooperate fully in achieving the objectives outlined in the master plan.
The minister acknowledged the strong relationship between Nigeria and JICA, which has been mutually beneficial, and commended the organization for sustaining its activities across the country. He also praised JICA’s efforts in promoting agricultural practices to enhance food security and nutrition in the FCT.
JICA’s Chief Representative in Nigeria, Yuzurio Susumu, acknowledged the challenges facilitating the Abuja master plan review, including setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic and bureaucratic obstacles. However, he assured the minister of JICA’s ongoing efforts to advance the project and its successful implementation.
The review of the Abuja master plan, approved in 2019, aims to ensure the sustainable development of the FCT. The minister’s call for expediency emphasizes the importance of completing this project to meet the growing needs of the city.
