The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister Nyesom Wike donates motorcycles to various security agencies to reinforce security measures in Abuja.
The gesture is aimed at consolidating the gains made in the fight against insecurity within the capital.
During the presentation ceremony held in Abuja, Minister Wike distributed the motorcycles as follows: 30 to the Nigeria Police, 5 each to the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the remaining 60 to the Vigilance Group of Nigeria (VGN).
Emphasizing the intended use of the motorcycles, Minister Wike cautioned that they should be deployed exclusively in remote areas, away from urban centers, to combat security challenges effectively.
He urged the VGN to collaborate closely with other security agencies, particularly in rural regions, to address crimes and ensure the safety of residents.
Addressing concerns about accountability, Minister Wike sternly warned against misuse or misplacement of the motorcycles, stressing the importance of their targeted deployment to designated areas.
He emphasized the need for responsible usage, highlighting the government’s commitment to providing logistical support to ensure operational efficiency.
In response, Navy Captain Abubakar Umar(rtd.), the Commandant General of the Vigilance Group of Nigeria, expressed gratitude for the donation, recognizing its significance in bolstering community security across the FCT’s six area councils.
Minister Wike reaffirmed the government’s unwavering dedication to enhancing security, promising continued support and the imminent provision of additional resources, including vehicles, to further strengthen the security apparatus.
The donation underscores the government’s proactive approach to addressing security challenges and underscores its commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the nation’s capital and its environs.
