The global confirmed cases of infected persons for the novel coronavirus has hit 2m according to a figures from John Hopkins University.

Figures for the total number of infected persons globally stand at 2,000,984. The US leads with 609,696 confirmed cases followed by Spain with 177,633 confirmed cases and Italy with 162,488 confirmed cases.

France has 131,362 and there are 94,852 cases in the United Kingdom.

The world has recorded a total of 129,099 deaths and 493,708 recovered cases.

The two countries with highest fatalities are the US and Italy. On Tuesday, the US had a total of 24,574 new cases and 2,228 deaths while Italy had a total of 2,972 new cases and 602 deaths.

Spain recorded 2,442 new cases and 300 deaths while France recorded -6,514 new cases and 762 deaths Tuesday.

China’s first case of COVID-19  was reported 105 days ago on 12/31/2019. Yesterday, the country reported 93 new confirmed cases and deaths.

Countries around the world are working to “flatten the curve” of the coronavirus pandemic. Flattening the curve involves reducing the number of new COVID-19 cases from one day to the next.

This helps prevent healthcare systems from becoming overwhelmed. When a country has fewer new COVID-19 cases emerging today than it did on a previous day, that’s a sign that the country is flattening the curve.
