Ex-Prison Officer Sentenced to 15 Months After Viral Video Reveals Shocking Misconduct and Repeated Sexual Encounters with Inmate, Raising Concerns About Prison Security and Staff Integrity

Linda De Sousa Abreu, a former officer at HMP Wandsworth, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison after a video of her having sex with an inmate went viral online.

The 30-year-old was identified by senior prison staff after the explicit footage gained widespread attention on social media. She was arrested at Heathrow Airport while attempting to flee to Madrid with her father. Abreu later pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office, according to BBC reports.

The incident reportedly took place between June 26 and June 28 at the South London facility. Further investigations revealed a second video, stored on her body-worn camera, showing her engaging in another sexual act with the same inmate. Abreu admitted to repeated sexual encounters with the prisoner.

During sentencing, Judge Martiin Edmunds KC stated that the viral video was part of a pattern of misconduct, not an isolated occurrence.

A spokesperson for the Prison Service commented:

“The vast majority of Prison Service staff are hardworking and honest. However, we are catching more of the small minority who break the rules by strengthening our Counter Corruption Unit and vetting processes. Today’s sentencing demonstrates that we take robust action against any officer who falls below our high standards.”

This scandal highlights ongoing challenges within the UK’s prison system as authorities work to prevent corruption and misconduct among staff.
