In escalation of tensions, Iran has launched direct drone strikes at Israel from its territory, according to statements from the Israeli army.
The military spokesperson, Daniel Hagari, announced the attacks in a televised statement, indicating that Iran deployed UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) from its own soil towards Israel.
Israel is collaborating closely with the United States and regional allies to intercept these attacks.
The strikes come amidst mounting tensions between the two nations, with Iran citing retaliation for a recent Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria.
Israeli officials had previously warned of consequences should Iran choose to escalate the situation further.
While the majority of missiles were intercepted by Israel’s aerial defense systems, there have been no reports of direct injuries resulting from the Iranian strikes, as confirmed by Israel’s emergency services.
In response to the attacks, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, affirmed Iran’s right to self-defense, warning of further retaliation if Israel continues to respond aggressively.
The latest escalation adds to the complexity of the region’s volatile dynamics, raising concerns about the potential for a broader conflict.
Both sides remain on high alert as tensions continue to simmer.
