A 17-year-old Migrant Teen Fatally Stabbed, Another Injured in Lower Manhattan, NYC After Being Targeted Over Language Barrier in Violent Attack

New York City police are investigating a stabbing incident that left 2 migrant teens, 17-year-old Yeremi Colino dead and an 18-year-old injured. The teens were reportedly approached by three men who asked if they spoke English. When the teens responded they did not, the men allegedly launched a violent attack.

The assault occurred around 7:40 p.m. on Thursday. Police responding to a 911 call found Colino with a stab wound to his chest and the 18-year-old with a wound to his arm. Both were rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue. Colino succumbed to his injuries, while the other teen remains in stable condition.

The surviving victim told police he believed one of the attackers used a screwdriver, though a knife was recovered at the scene and is being tested for forensic evidence.

Suspects Still at Large
The attackers fled on foot. They are described as three men in their 20s with dark complexions. Police released the following details about their clothing:

  • One suspect wore a green jacket, white pants, and white sneakers.
  • A second suspect had on red pants, a red hooded sweatshirt, a black jacket, and carried a black backpack.
  • The third suspect wore red sweatpants, a red hooded sweatshirt, a black jacket, and blue-and-white sneakers.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the NYPD.
