Nigerian bodybuilder Samson Dauda has won the esteemed 2024 Mr. Olympia title, marking a historic moment by claiming the largest prize in the sport’s history. The championship took place at the Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas, concluding the 2024 Olympia weekend festivities.
During the event, fifteen of the top bodybuilders advanced from the pre-judging round to compete for the coveted title on the main stage. Dauda, who hails from Nigeria but now resides in the United Kingdom, triumphed in the competition, while Hadi Choopan finished as the runner-up and 2023 champion Derek Lunsford secured third place.
In addition to his title, Dauda was honored as the People’s Champion and received an astonishing prize of $600,000, setting a new record for the largest monetary award ever given in bodybuilding history.
The sport has a rich legacy, with legendary actor Arnold Schwarzenegger having previously dominated the Mr. Olympia stage. He won six consecutive titles from 1970 to 1975 before making a successful return in 1980 to claim his seventh and final championship, solidifying his iconic status in the realm of bodybuilding.
