Lagos, Nigeria – Renowned Nigerian football legend and former Super Eagles head coach, Christian Chukwu, has died at the age of 74.
The sad news was confirmed on Saturday by his close friend and former teammate, Dr. Olusegun Odegbami. Details regarding the exact cause of death remain unknown as of the time this report was filed.
Odegbami, who played alongside Chukwu in Nigeria’s victorious 1980 Africa Cup of Nations squad, expressed his grief in a heartfelt message.
“I just got the news between 9 and 10 this morning that my dear friend and teammate, ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu, MFR, has passed away,” he said. “The information came from Emmanuel Okala, MON. May ‘Onyim’ find eternal rest, and may his family be comforted.”
