Nigerian boxer Cynthia Temitayo Ogunsemilore has been provisionally suspended from the Paris Olympics after testing positive for a banned substance, the International Testing Agency (ITA) announced on Saturday.

A sample collected from Ogunsemilore on Thursday, just a day before the Olympic opening ceremony, tested positive for furosemide, a substance classified under “diuretics and masking agents” by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

The adverse analytical finding was reported by a WADA-accredited laboratory on Saturday.

The ITA stated that Ogunsemilore has been informed of her case and has been provisionally suspended until the matter is resolved. This suspension bars her from competing, training, coaching, or participating in any Olympic activities during the Paris 2024 Games.

Ogunsemilore, a 22-year-old boxer in the under 60 kg category, was set to make her Olympic debut on Monday. She has the right to challenge her suspension at the Court of Arbitration for Sport and can also request an analysis of her B sample.
