OpenAI Expands Deep Research Feature to All Paying ChatGPT Users Worldwide

OpenAI has announced that its sophisticated deep research feature, an AI web-browsing tool designed to produce extensive research reports, is now available to all paying users of ChatGPT globally. The update, shared on the company’s official X account, marks a significant broadening of access to a tool that was previously limited to a select group of

“Deep research is now rolling out to all ChatGPT Plus, Team, Edu, and Enterprise users,” OpenAI confirmed.

Under this new rollout, subscribers to the ChatGPT Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Edu plans will now benefit from ten deep research queries each month. Meanwhile, users of the ChatGPT Pro plan, which costs $200 monthly, will see their monthly allocation of deep research queries increase to 120, up from the initial cap of 100 at the time of launch.

The deep research tool, first introduced on February 3, was specifically designed as an AI-driven aid to assist users with detailed and intricate research tasks using ChatGPT. Initially, the feature was exclusively available to ChatGPT Pro users, with plans for subsequent availability for Plus and Team users, followed by Enterprise users. At that time, OpenAI noted the rollout was geo-targeted, lacking a set timeline for availability in countries like the U.K. and Switzerland, as well as throughout the European Economic Area.

Since its initial debut, DeepAI has rolled out multiple enhancements to the deep research tool, including the capability to embed images with appropriate citations within the output and a strengthened ability to comprehend and reference uploaded files.

The AI landscape is seeing fierce competition, with technology companies aiming to expand their AI research capabilities as critical components of their premium subscription offerings. In parallel to OpenAI’s advancements, both Google and Perplexity AI have introduced their own deep research tools. Google made its deep research agent widely accessible to all Gemini Advanced users in February 2025, intensifying its rivalry with OpenAI. This tool is engineered to produce detailed, AI-assisted reports, akin to DeepAI’s offering. Meanwhile, Perplexity AI launched its deep research capability on February 14, 2025, aimed at aiding users in performing comprehensive research on complex subjects.

Furthermore, OpenAI has unveiled a new feature called ‘Operator,’ designed to automate everyday tasks such as booking flights and making reservations. Initially rolled out to ChatGPT Pro users in Brazil, Canada, and India, this capability extends the functional range of ChatGPT beyond mere conversation and into practical automation.

As of February 2025, OpenAI has surpassed 400 million weekly active users, a remarkable achievement amidst rising competition, particularly from the Chinese AI startup DeepSeek. This surge in user adoption highlights the growing demand for AI-enabled automation and research tools, like Deep Research and Operator.
