Ghanaian actor and Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Movie Awards, Fred Nuamah has revealed how he sold his house and car to organize the event.
Speaking on UTV Ghana over the weekend, Mr. Nuamah stated that he sold the car and house to Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan, an action he said was to show how much he loved the Ghanaian movie industry.
“I sold my house and car and car to organize the Ghana Movie Awards. Ask Asamoah Gyan; he bought that car in 2010. So, who else can say he loves the industry more than me,” he said.
Fred Nuamah expressed that corporate entities had turned him down when he approached them for sponsorship due to some funny perceptions they had about the movie industry.
Citing an experience, he narrated how he was turned down by a businessman who claimed that the Ghanaian movie industry is full of promiscuous individuals.
“A friend introduced me to a businessman for sponsorship, and I was confident about it, but he declined after meeting him. According to him, actresses are promiscuous and his wife would not approve of his support,” he said.
He said dealing with colleague actors and actresses has been challenging when he shared how some of them fail to appear at main events after days of rehearsals.
“There was a particular year Nikki Samonas, Lilwin, Adjetey Annan, and Nana Ama McBrown had pre-recorded their presentations, but during the event, McBrown did not show up. Her excuse was that she was not invited to the event, meanwhile, I gave her husband the card myself, you see the frustration I go through,” he recalled.
Fred Nuamah added that he has lost some friends in the industry because he has always failed to compromise.
“Yvonne Okoro does not talk to me because of Ghana Movie Awards. Yvonne Nelson stopped talking to me for like a year. I do not compromise, and because of that I am losing friends,” he said.
