The Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, has ruled that former President Goodluck Jonathan is eligible to contest the 2023 presidential election, if he so wishes.
The presiding judge, Justice Isa Hamma Dashen gave the judgement on Friday.
He also held that Jonathan’s right to vie for the office of president again cannot be stopped by any retroactive law.
Recall that Femi Falana, a senior advocate of Nigeria, earlier said Jonathan was not qualified run for office for a second time citing constitutional reasons.
The court has now verified that such laws in the case of Jonathan are retroactive.
