The Rivers state House of Assembly complex is currently undergoing demolition by governor Sim Fubara following an order raised by one of the factional speakers of the house, Ihie Edison, on Wednesday morning. This is coming amidst the political crisis rocking the state.
About 6 bulldozers drove into the premises of the state House of Assembly, Wednesday morning, and started the demolition of the complex. This came after the factional Speaker, Edison Ehie, along with lawmakers loyal to the governor held a sitting early on Wednesday before the demolition began. Mr. Ehie had raised concerns over the state of complex after it was bombed and recommended it for renovations.
Ehie, during the session, said the complex was due for repairs following the explosion that rocked the building on October 30, 2023, saying the governor will provide an alternative place for them to sit for the meantime.
The demolition is still ongoing as at the time of this report and being done under very strict security supervision.
